ABOUT

In this era of globalization, the role of customary law and Islamic law in the development of just law is increasingly attracting the attention of the world. Although modern legal systems have developed in various countries, but the values and norms passed down from generation to generation in indigenous peoples and religious values contained in Islam still play an important role in people’s lives. Therefore, it is important for academics, legal practitioners, and stakeholders to dig deeper into the contribution of customary law and Islamic law in an effort to achieve a more equitable and inclusive legal system.

Customary law is a legal system that grows and develops based on certain traditions, customs, and norms of society. This system has existed since ancient times and is the foundation for regulating people’s lives in various regions. Meanwhile, Islamic law, as a legal system derived from Islamic religious teachings, also has a significant influence in many countries with a majority Muslim population.

In recent decades, there have been debates and challenges related to the recognition and protection of customary law and the implementation of Islamic law in various national legal systems. Some countries have successfully integrated elements of customary law and Islamic law in their national legal apparatus, while others still face challenges in striking a balance between the values of justice and human rights.

The diversity of legal systems and cultures in the world shows that there is no single approach that can solve legal problems universally. However, by better understanding the contribution of customary law and Islamic law, countries can draw inspiration from experience and best practices to build legal systems that are equitable, inclusive, and relevant to their social context.

The international conference with the theme “The Contribution of Customary Law and Islamic Law in the Development of Equitable Legal System” is the right moment to discuss issues related to customary law and Islamic law. The meeting will provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge, understanding, and thoughts among legal experts, academics, legal practitioners, and relevant stakeholders from different countries.

With this forum, it is hoped that a wider awareness will be created about the importance of recognizing and understanding the role of customary law and Islamic law in the development of equitable legal system, as well as encouraging collaboration and implementation of concrete measures to improve the protection of indigenous peoples’ rights, gender equality, and access to justice for all communities.

The contribution of customary law and Islamic law that has shaped people’s identity and social life over the years should be appreciated and recognized as an important part of efforts to create a more just, inclusive, and equitable legal system. Thus, it is hoped that this conference will make a meaningful contribution to the development of law and a more just society in the future.

Customary Law and Islamic Law are two legal systems that have an important role in society in various regions. Both hold the potential to contribute to building more just and equitable legal system. Therefore, this international conference aims to explore and discuss the potential and role of Customary Law and Islamic Law in the development of more equitable law, involving academics, legal practitioners, and related stakeholders.
